Pre-Draft Outlook
After being in position for a top-four finish in the West through All-Star, the Grizzlies struggled down the stretch, dropping to eighth place and making a late-season coaching change. Memphis secured a playoff berth via the SoFi Play-In Tournament, which meant the lottery-protected first-round pick they sent to Washington as part of the Marcus Smart trade in February officially belonged to the Wizards, leaving Memphis with two late second-round picks.
The Way To Go
The Grizzlies have excelled in finding second-round talent the past few years with players such as Jaylen Wells (No. 39 in 2024), GG Jackson (No. 45 in 2023) and Vince Williams (No. 47 in 2022) all contributing right away. Can they strike again in 2025? Or will they package their picks to try to move up in this year’s draft or secure future assets? If they keep the picks, Memphis is likely in the “best player available” portion of the draft versus looking to fill a specific need.
