Faces competition for steady playing time
The Grizzlies are expected to focus on developing their young talent this season, though Jackson still faces plenty of competition for minutes. Memphis drafted Boozer and Lopez in June before acquiring Grant in the Ja Morant deal later that month. Jackson has flashed potential throughout his time in the NBA, which the Grizzlies rewarded this summer by exercising his $2.4 million team option. The 21-year-old's long-term upside could help him retain a meaningful role, but he isn't guaranteed steady minutes when the team is at full strength. Jackson is coming off a solid season for an injury-riddled Grizzlies squad in 2025-26, averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 combined steals-plus-blocks while shooting 49.6 percent from the field across 21.4 minutes per game in 55 regular-season appearances (28 starts).

Dealt to Memphis
Peavy's inclusion is arguably the more notable personnel loss for New Orleans. Will Guillory of The Athletic notes that the 2025 second-round pick showed real promise as an on-ball defender and had become a useful piece of the Pelicans' locker room. Peavy averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds across 61 regular-season appearances as a rookie, and the 23-year-old should compete for a reserve role on the wing in Memphis.

Hawkins' departure doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Will Guillory of The Athletic notes that the Pelicans had been looking to move on from the 24-year-old. Hawkins averaged just 5.1 points in 51 regular-season appearances last season, and moving his $7 million salary helps New Orleans create the necessary financial flexibility to finalize its deal with Bennedict Mathurin. Hawkins will get a fresh start in Memphis, though he'll need to earn a spot in a crowded backcourt rotation before emerging as a fantasy option.
