Dealing with wrist injury

Markkanen popped up on the team's injury report along with Kyle Filipowski (back) and Georges Niang (foot). All three players didn't participate in practice. It is uncertain what the severity of Markkanen's injury is and whether it'll impact his status for the start of the preseason Oct. 8 against the Rockets.

Dealing with back issue

Filipowski was shut down for the remainder of the Las Vegas Summer League for maintenance purposes in July, and the severity of his current injury is unclear. The Jazz don't open their preseason until next Wednesday, so the 2024 second-rounder has some time to return to practice. If Filipowski is limited at all to begin the upcoming campaign, Taylor Hendricks, Cody Williams and Svi Mykhailiuk will have more opportunities as reserves.

Healthy for training camp

Hendricks' rehab went as planned, and he should be ready to rejoin Utah's rotation for his third season. Hendricks was limited to three appearances last year before suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle. In his 43 games as a pro, the 2023 No. 9 overall pick has averaged 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 21.7 minutes. Hendricks has shown off intriguing 3-and-D potential, but minutes won't be easy to come by in a frontcourt group that also includes Lauri Markkanen, Ace Bailey, Kyle Filipowski and Walker Kessler.
